Description: Kathy is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and a 1980 graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University (BFA), where she majored in painting. Exposure to world cultures and geographies has been a significant influence on her artistic process. Of particular importance have been travels to locales in Africa, India, the Far East, and Europe. Many hours traveling in planes and viewing the Earth from above led her to note common patterns between apparently disparate habitats. This was followed by her subsequent on-the-ground encounters with the peoples of these countries through which common patterns between their apparently disparate cultures became obvious. Kathy's curiosity about human relations, physics, sacred geometry, and the natural environment were thus stimulated, and this provides the basis for her artistic consideration of natural, and potentially universal, structures and states. Her work can be described as the exploration of energy templates arising from an intuitive response to the patterns and states observed. Intellectual influences include Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, and Victor Frankl. Artistic influences include, O'Keefe, Picasso, Pollack, Gaudi, and Klimt. Among the living, Bourgeois, Goldsworthy, and Jamali provide continuing intrigue, while the Master Artist Adi Da Samraj serves as the single greatest influence on her work, particularly in the area of her consideration of light as the source condition of the structures and states that she paints. In 2004, Kathy was invited to participate as one of 20 artists featured in the extraordinary Portfolio Project being developed by the Colours of Freedom Foundation of Toronto, Canada (www.ColoursOfFreedom.com). The Colours of Freedom Foundation, formed in response to the events of September 11, "is devoted to the development and implementation of programs and curricula that bring children together in dialogue, exchange of ideas, culture and shared experiences". The Colours of Freedom Children's Peace Initiatives Fund within the Foundation is the vehicle for raising financial support for these engagements with the world, and The Portfolio Project is the primary fund raising tool. In 2005 Skerritt was appointed an Advisor to the Foundation. This opportunity to put her art into the service of global peace initiatives is for Kathy a right use of the potential of art to heal. It is in this spirit that she is honored to participate in the Bridging Heaven and Earth Art Project. www.KathySkerritt.com Patricia, an international contemporary artist, lives in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada. Born in 1953 with European roots in Poland, Russia and the Ukraine, Patricia started her working career in business and pursued her art for many years as a hobby. In 1985, she made the decision to study the discipline of painting abstract oils. Studying with Canadian icon, Tony Urquhart, she knew that her passion was taking on a serious stride. Patricia began exhibiting professionally and is represented by Studio 261 in Montreal, Quebec, BB International Fine Arts in Caslano, Switzerland, Coda Gallery in Soho, New York, Choiunard Foundation, Los Angeles U.S.A., the Sherrus Gallery in Michigan, Gallery on the Bay in Hamilton, Ontario along with several other notable galleries. She has exhibited in Seoul, Korea, Innsbruk, Austria, Berlin, Geneva, Zurich, France, China, Australia and many other countries. Patricia also studied in France with Master artist, Dragan Dragic, for several years and will have an exhibition in Sault, France in 2006 curated by Dragic. A deeply spiritual individual who has walked the path of self-realization and has dedicated her life to service to humanity, Patricia is the Executive Director of World Portfolio Development for the Colours of Freedom Foundation. This organization serves to raise funds for several Children's Peace initiatives including Free The Children founded by Craig Kielburger (for Craig's bio, see Show # 190 above) in 1995. Free the Children is an international movement of children helping children improving lives in more than 35 countries. In addition, Round Square is a worldwide association of schools which share a commitment, beyond academic excellence, to personal development and responsibility through service, challenge, adventure and international understanding. Along with these organizations, Colours of Freedom is working with several other smaller organizations and hopes to increase awareness in both Art and service to humanity.
