Description: The Swiss National Museum or Landesmuseum (German) -- part of the Musée Suisse Group -- is one of the most important art museums of cultural history in Europe and the world. It is located in the city of Zurich, Switzerland's largest city, next to the Main Station. The museum building of 1898 in the historicist style was built by Gustav Gull in the form of the French Renaissance city chateaus. His impressive architecture with dozens of towers, courts and his astonishing park on an island between the rivers Sihl and Limmat has become one of the main sights of the Old City District of Zurich. The exhibition tour takes the visitor from prehistory through ancient times and the Middle Ages to the 20th century (classic modern art and art of the 16th, 17th and 18th century is settled mainly in the Kunsthaus Museum in a different part of the city of Zurich). There is a very rich section with gothic art, chivalry and a comprehensive collection of liturgical wooden sculptures, panel paintings and carved altars. ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ Le Musée national suisse est une appellation regroupant huit musées répartis dans différentes régions de la Suisse. Le Groupe MUSEE SUISSE est la fondation de droit public qui les représentent[1]. Ces musées dépendent directement de la Confédération, Office fédéral de la culture (OFC), et le siège est à Zurich. Ils présentent la culture et l'histoire de la Suisse. Avec plus d'un million d'objets réunis les huit musées nationaux représentent la plus importante collection culturelle de Suisse couvrant la période de la Préhistoire à nos jours. Une bibliothèque et une photothèque complètent l'offre. Le Musée national suisse existe depuis 1898 à Zurich. Il a pris place dans un bâtiment construit à cet effet par Gustave Gull En 1990 la Confédération reçoit la collection du musée des automates de musique de Seewen En 1998 est ouvert la principale annexe au Château de Prangins (1730) au bord du lac Léman Dès 2005 Le bâtiment zurichois est en cours de rénovation afin d'adapter l'infrastructure aux exigences d'un Musée national moderne. Un agrandissement est projeté (architectes Christ & Gantenbein). Sa réalisation est prévue entre 2010 et 2012 ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ Das Schweizerische Landesmuseum wird mit Hauptsitz in Zürich betrieben. Es untersteht der Kontrolle des Bundesrates und umfasst acht Häuser. Das Museum in Zürich beherbergt die grösste kulturgeschichtliche Sammlung der Schweiz. Die Dauerausstellung umfasst sämtliche Epochen von der Urgeschichte bis zum 21. Jahrhundert. Mehrmals jährlich werden Sonderausstellungen eröffnet. Das Landesmuseum wurde 1897 in einem neu erbauten, burgähnlichen Gebäude von Gustav Gull in Zürich eröffnet. Zürich hatte mit dem Projekt Märchenschloss einen Wettbewerb gegen andere Schweizer Städte gewonnen. Das Gebäude kombiniert verschiedenste Architekturstile und ist daher seit seiner Entstehung umstritten. Der Architekt verewigte sich im Bau, indem er seinen Initialen gemäss für den Grundriss ein G wählte. Zur Zeit sind Erweiterungen des alten Gebäudes geplant. Seit 1998 gibt es eine Zweigstelle in Prangins am Genfersee. Die Dauerausstellung im Schloss von 1730 befasst sich mit der wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und kulturellen Entwicklung im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert. Regelmässig finden Sonderausstellungen zu kulturgeschichtlichen Themen statt. Zur Museumsgruppe gehören ausserdem: das Schweizerische Zollmuseum in Cantine di Gandria (Geschichte des Schmuggels, Aufgaben der Grenzbehörden, Methoden der Verbrechensbekämpfung) das Forum der Schweizer Geschichte in Schwyz (Alltag zwischen 1300 und 1800 sowie Wechselausstellungen zu gesellschaftlich relevanten Themen) das Museum für Musikautomaten in Seewen SO (weltbekannte Sammlung an mechanischen Musikautomaten) das Schloss Wildegg (Leben einer Schlossherrenfamilie, Nutz- und Lustgarten) das Museum Bärengasse in Zürich (Zürich 1750 bis 1800) das Zunfthaus zur Meisen in Zürich (Zunfthaus, Porzellansammlung)
